Eating onions and garlic daily in a daily diet protects women from breast cancer risk, according to a new US study.
The study was conducted by researchers from the University of Buffalo and published in the journal "Nutrition and Cancer".
The researchers said onions and garlic are the main ingredients of the Soverito sauce, which is used mainly for cooking in the kitchens of Spain, Italy, Portugal and Latin America.
They added that the idea of the study originated from previous scientific evidence that proved that eating regular onions and garlic has a protective effect against cancer.
To reach the results of the new study, the researchers monitored 314 women with breast cancer and 346 non-infected women between 2008 and 2014.
The researchers found that women who ate the garlic and onion-rich souffreto sauce, or those who took garlic and onions in their diets once a day, had a 67% lower risk of breast cancer compared to those who did not eat garlic and onions.
The study showed that daily intake of garlic and onions was associated with a lower risk of breast cancer.
The protective effect is due to the fact that garlic and onions contain high levels of flavonols and organic compounds that show anti-cancer therapeutic properties in humans.
